Random Card Challenge 6!

It’s that time again! Time for another Random Card Challenge. This is where I take a randomly-generated card from the Gatherer on the Wizards MTG site and say how useful it will be in a deck.

Today we have…..

Roar of the Crowd is a Sorcery that Casts for one Red and Three Colourless. You choose a creature type. Roar of the Crowd deals damage to target creature or player equal to the number of permanents you control of the chosen type.

I don’t really see the point of this in a standard deck. Unless you are running a theme deck that has a lot of a certain creature type, it will average only one or two damage, bar a good hand.

For me, however, this is a pretty good card. I use a fast-paced red deck that has just Goblins in it and my Bloody Knights deck that was posted in one of the Deck Spec.’s and features just vampires. In those decks i would definitely run Roar of the Crowd as it has the potential to deal one damage per creature, as they are all the same type.

Roar of the Crowd has another weakness as well as it’s limitation to one creature type. It’s casting cost of four for a one shot. This isn’t as bad as it sounds though, as the longer the game goes on (and the more mana you have access to to summon creatures with) the more damage it will do. There are, however, a lot of cards that cast for one or two that deal a certain amount of damage and arent reliable on the number of creatures you have.

All in all a pretty good card, though it’s limitiationa and variable damage is both its main strength and its biggest weakness. 7/10. Good, but better cards are around.
